General
Information
Kendal has long been the
"Gateway to the Lake District". Set astride the River Kent
Kendal is an ancient market town. The consistent use of local limestone
gives Kendal a uniform look "the Auld Grey Town".
It is recommended to explore the town on foot and investigate the
numerous "yards" and alleyways.
There is a pleasant riverside walk along the banks of the River Kent.
Overlooking the river to the east are the remains of a Norman Castle
set on a small hill, the birthplace of Catherine Parr the sixth wife
of Henry VIII.
